Hi,

Total newbie here. Here’s the story: I had a spare small speaker so I thought, why not buy a little amp circuit to use the speaker, build a little enclosure and hey presto, a small guitar amp for the caravan. So I bought a Noisy Cricket amp from Fuzzdog and am waiting for it to be delivered. Just wondered if anyone had built this and how they found it. Any problems?

Does the IC come with a socket or do you solder directly to the PCB.

I'm not familiar with this particular kit, but the Noisy Cricket is one of the easiest things you could possibly build, so it shouldn't be hard to get it built and working quickly.
Whether you use a socket or not for the IC chip isn't all that important. It's a matter of taste, really. Some people prefer to use sockets because it makes it much easier to replace the chip if it were to die. But other people hate sockets because after some years you may get trouble from the contacts becoming loose (depending on quality of the socket). For something like this, I generally wouldn't, since I've never experienced one of those chips dying on me.
