Kingtone - Duellist
I'm guessing that this topic is unspokenly off limits because there is absolutely nothing in search results for it, here or anywhere else. If I am breaking some unspoken code here by asking please just say so.
It seems to me that no one will trace a D*ellist or any other Kin*tone pedal. Perhaps out of respect for the original maker, which if so, is pretty nice. I'm just really curious about it. I've been looking for some indication of what the mods are to the TS circuit that makes it so desirable/popular AND to me via YT demos, sound so much better than your average TS.
I suppose this is not really a request for a trace, more of a request for information regarding this particular mod to the TS circuit. I've been told by some folks to just build a TS and apply the general mods to it. I'm in the middle of doing that atm but it would be nice to know the deal with this one.
Anyone got anything to say about it?
thanks

I've never heard of these pedals. Trust me, there is absolutely no pedal topic that is off limits here, and we've cheerfully weathered all manner of abuse and threats from various builders and manufacturers. Lack of info on FSB is pretty much always because of lack of interest.

There's the inside of a Duellist:
This is easily found on the manufacturer's website. Nothing stopping you from starting a topic in the Boutique section with this. It's really that easy."Analog electronics in music is dead. Analog effects pedal design is a dead art." - Fran
Ok,thanks. I've brought it up in other forums only to be deleted, ignored, or otherwise told it was a bad idea and I'm not sure why. There was never any attitude about it. I thought for sure I'd see it here since it's a really popular/ talked about pedal some places, perhaps not DIY places
thanks
thanks
They are supposed to be great pedals according to pedal buyers, not so special according to builderssoulsonic wrote: β27 May 2020, 19:13 I've never heard of these pedals. Jessy Davey is a regarded player / pedal name -ala Kingtone. The big one is the Duellist, Blues Breaker/ Tube Screamer double circuit variant

The only thing off limit is suggesting certain pedals are off limit -- hehehe!

I'm not a huge fan of board-mounted footswitches for production pedals, but otherwise this one looks like a pretty tight build.

This one has interested me for a while too. I saw the gut shot, but being colorblind, I'm of no use with tracing

You are correct, this boards says V1.0.4 -- while the other one was V1.0mutante wrote: β06 Jun 2020, 13:09 https://ameblo.jp/tgl-tokyo/image-12510 ... 46590.html

Is this your unit? If so would be great if you could make some photos in daylight?
This will make it easier to read to the color coding...
If you look closely, you'll see the two side are almost identical, it's basically two Tubescreamers with different clipping sections.Sidneychan wrote: β07 Jun 2020, 03:20 Also want to know is there any traced schematic for this one
Some of the components values are even listed on the board...

I thought it was a tube screamer and blues breaker? Either way, should cut down the work time considerably. If I have time, maybe I'll see what I can do, but no guarantees.modman wrote: β07 Jun 2020, 15:18You are correct, this boards says V1.0.4 -- while the other one was V1.0mutante wrote: β06 Jun 2020, 13:09 https://ameblo.jp/tgl-tokyo/image-12510 ... 46590.html

I haven't had a chance to look at this, but I noticed that at pedalpcb.com, they have an upcoming project for one side of the duellist, as well as the soloist from Kingtone. Once the build docs are up, I'm guessing there's a great schematic in there. And the PCB's are always top notch.

Here's the Duellist schematic.
This trace is from the first version (2015-2021). The 2022 version has a few slightly different features including two extra DIP switch positions, though it's probably extremely close.
