Nice project to experiment with vacuum tubes (Aka: valves) without involving dangerous voltages.
This same design can be implemented with an inexpensive TV tube named 6GK5:
This miniature tube requires a 7 pin socket, measure 48mm in height, 19mm in diameter, and draws 180mA for heating (instead of 300mA as the tube originally proposed.)

P.S.: According to the current criteria, the two 741's should be replaced by a TL072, a RC4558 or similar op amps

The Tubster works also with 12AX7, ECC83 Triodes, because the values of mu, Ri and gm are very close and for some brands and gain classes the same.

LOL.
Serious old school tube vibe with separate batteries for plate & heater supplies, although if I were to build it, it would be with a charge pump for +/-9v, a regulator for the heater (and, yes, a lower current triode), and an internally mounted tube.
