PDF: Nothing new under this sun: passive diode clipping to add to your tube amp. Published two years earlier in Craig Anderton, Build a Fuzzbox for under $3, Popular Electronics, January 1967

More interesting is that the article is directly followed by the discussion of a new commercial fuzzbox, the Univox - Superfuzz. The conclusion is absolutely baffling, but that seems to have been the whole idea.

I think they got a request from Lafayette to feature their new product, the Superfuzz. The best way to attract attention to that in what is basically a DIY magazine, is to offer a Fuzz project that will never live up to the user's expectations. But he knows what to buy now... That's some slick shit...

Herb Fredman killing it with the mods! This type of thing does actually sound pretty rad. I did this to my Fender Bandmaster in place of the bright switch and it was sick! (at least to the 19 year old grung me).

And all that for less than a third of the price of the Amstrong mod!
It was also one of the first mods I did on my old T500 Hammond organ to try and generate some distortion ;-)
