It may be that the LM308 is a fake and that could account for the tone difference.

I think the LM308 is real. Biyang didn’t really cheap out on the parts in the beginning. Not sure about now. I put the LM308 in place of the LM301AN Ic in my pedalpcb Cattle Driver “ buffalo fx td-x” clone and found it somewhat smoother sounding. Nothing drastic. Planning to try a few others as well.
