I'm planing to build the Cornic Fuzz which actually is a clone of Pete Cornish NG-2:

https://pcbguitarmania.com/wp-content/u ... docs-1.pdf

Instructions and different sides say it's an si-ge-hybrid fuzz and you should use npn-ge tranis for q4 and q5.

Does anybody has an idea which one should be better than the bc549 / bc550 shown in the schematic?

I've built a few of these and tried germanium for Q4/Q5 in one. I prefer silicon in this circuit, and as a reference, I'm a big fan of germanium fuzz.

That's the first time I've seen the BC550 mentioned - I've been using BC549C with good results. Almost any NPN silicon transistor with a reasonable amount of gain and low noise will do the job one.

Thanks. I'll use the BC549C for Q4/5 but will check some high hFE NPN-Ge-Tranis before.
