Hi, what is this "mass" control?
Is it simply a balance pot varying between 2 capacitor values at the input?

Probably. It's a Fuzzrite so the common mods are: larger input/output caps, removing or increasing the 22k to ground with a switch or a pot - I've used an A250k to good results. That's the other knob probably, Harmonics or Intensity, at least that's what it sounds like to me. Of course the other knob is the blend between the two transistors.
The US/Japan switch probably switches to the other circuit, which is a clone of an old octave fuzz.
It sounds great I have to say, in that one demo at least. I dislike the placement of the DC jack.
