So:
I've never modded any tube amp and I'm not that expert of tubes, the only thing I can do is to compare schematics of amps I like with mine..I must confess the HRDLX is very complex to me schematic wise, especially when I find this relays all over the schem..having two channels really makes it hard to read..anyway I was wondering if some of the bad sound lays in the first gain stage, the one beetween the first and the second halve of V1..I've seen vintage amps are pretty easy here, a 1M log pot and a bypass cap for bright tones..nothing more, why in mine there is a 220k res then a 250k volume pot then a 10k res and finally I have a 100k res that goes from V1b "emitter"(I think it's cathode, right?) to its' "base"? Is the "less is more" rule valid here? Plus the bright control on mine looks completely shit...they also need a relay to disengage it when on the drive channel..why don't they simply get rid of it and put a switchable bypass cap on the volume pot as they've done for ages? plus in that way V1b doesn't have a cathode cap..that surely will make my amp way smoother..
Maybe a noob's rant..but that's what I think of my amp where I can uderstand it's schematics..
