a degreed engineer and a musician
and neither can get a decal straight. Lots of BS in that article. Check the threads on the Harmonic Convergers (active & passive).

Its reportedly a couple caps on switches. There have been several instances where people have gotten them and said they were surprised at whats inside. They usually said they would post pictures and such but ended up never returning to the thread. Kinda weird.

They should label the switches "Pop Okay"

That's built by Gil Ayan. I've heard it's more directed at humbuckers than single coils. Apparently the effect is subtle at best through most player's gear. It may disappear amongst a pedalboard fulla stuff.

At Ampgarage he's built some of the sweetest D*mble ODS, BM, HRM clones you're likely to ever see. Non-gooped if anyone's asking...He is quite experienced in terms of getting a certain tone. think:Robin Ford, Sonny Landreth, et al.
I'm just saying this fellow wouldn't put his eye out with a soldering iron and has access to real Dumble amps. So perhaps his set-up is worlds away from most of us thereby his needs are different. PM or contact him herehttp://www.ayanmusic.com/ and tell him what you are desiring. There's every chance in the world you will get a straight answer.

I recently built a rack for a client of mine who uses lots of pedals. he wanted to have as a last unit before the amp the ayan s&s. I was very curious about this little box. after testing it (and mounting it inside the rack, as my client wanted) I must say that I won't use such a thing in my own rig... such things should be controlled with amps and guitars, not by extra-stuff. such a unit is harming the original signal, not helping it, in my opinion!

I always assumed that one side was a varitone and the other was a cap to ground high rolloff. I never really looked at it too closely though. That's what happens when you assume. A varitone / cap to ground combo would be more versatie than the actual SnS. :?

Okay, I understand what's going on here... but I'm not sure I get the point of it being marketed the way it is. I mean, I understand what they mean about using it to cut the low-end so a Boogie doesn't mush out, but it doesn't seem like something to solve universal problems. Maybe I'm not reading it right. Anyway, it seems like they could make it more versatile by having more positions on the switches for more degrees of bass cut or whatever.

It's obviously just a couple of caps and switches.

I usually wonder how the builders have the guts to trick the costumers like this.

Bad decal - check
Bad construction - check
10 min of total work - check
$20 of components - check

That leaves the builder getting way over $500 an hour. Now that's a good job.

Jeez, I'd never seen the guts. It looks pretty anemic if nothing else. That looks like a double helping of fromage du jour.

He does build some quality amps IMO.

Well, for $500 an hour that amp should have cost a big fat fortune. Like $30000. Now I wanna kick something.

Yikes, for the $120 he should at least goop the motherfucking thing, you know, to hide the shame, but not even that...

I would normally ask about the values of the caps, but I don't even care, this is just so lame it's not even worth talking about any more.

Obviously he likes to do a good job when he's building something nice for himself! The rest of us obviously aren't important enough to be worthy of something well-built by him.

Geez, you think he could at least put a buffer in there.....why not do it with an first or second order active EQ? Why not do it right?
