Hi Paul Bass! i think that your mods are very interesting, but i'm wondering some details about them. first: what's the value of the resistance value used with the pot instead of the r17 for the gain pot? the same question for the value of the mid pot. next: could you explain the "switches + caps for c4 & c5" mod? seems quite interesting but i think i dont get it. then: could you detail the IC replacement that you did? the exact ic's that you used would be nice!
other thing: the layout you posted it's from the bloviator (from madbeans) and it includes the 4u7 cap instead the original c2... thats great.
thanks for your information!
If you look back on Bajaman's posts and mine it will explain all your questions. If you add switches like I did at C4 & C5 there will be popping. I wasn't able to solve that problem. The BBE Sonic Stomp design puts half the supply voltage through the entire circuit so adding any components to alleviate the popping will drastically change the sound. good luck!

Can I use a higher voltage on this circuit? Say 12-15v instead of 9V.

@cebreez - as long as the electros are rated for the higher voltage, no problems

I built this today using HBO's layout, found here: https://www.freestompboxes.org/viewtopic ... 61#p129061
It's awesome! Can't wait to get it boxed up...

somebody made a PCB layout from Bajaman's design. a lot easier to follow if schematic reading skills are limited

this layout is checked?

Hi paulbass, can you get a nice real punchy notes out of your bass with yours? I am hanging to find a unit that will make the bass notes punch like a mule. this looks like a lot of fun for a bass player this pedal. Please anyone that plays bass write what it's like on here i'd love to know. Cheers

I built this on vero from the layout at sabrotone. Amazing! wanna give big thanks to Bajaman and HBO. You guys are my new hero's ! I used tl081 tl082 and tl084 chips , sounds great was thinking about popping in a opa2134 in place of the tl082 but im not sure it will make much if any of a difference and it already sounds amazing!

I know a lot of people use these for metal on modern high gain amps. I'm mainly a blues/jazz player and I play on a 1973 peavey vintage two 12 model its basically a bassman clone with solidstate preamp and four 6L6's on the power side. I thought my amp and set up sounded amazing before i added the baja sonic stump to my chain, and now it sounds even better! I haven't seen many reviews of the BBE or the clones that are not geared toward metal style of playing. I am here to say its great for us blues/jazz/rock guys too! sounds equally good on my solid state fender deluxe 85 (upgraded ic's to opa2134).

I also ran this thru a few bass amps with my fretless acoustic bass and a fender jazz bass (passive) and a newer schecter custom 4 string(active) into a pretty nice crate with a 15" and a carvin bass amp that has a 15" 2 10"s and a horn(tube pre) And again just brings so much life out of the bass and makes it clearer. This pedal is almost a bit of a boost but more of a clarity box then anything. When I used it along with a flatline comp it really gave the bass the punch I think pedalgrinder is looking for.

I haven't tried yet but id like to use this with mics and in my fx loop of my mixer for vocals etc. Can anyone tell me if it will work ok or if i need to change something about the input and output for impedance or something else I'm not aware of. Ive been a fan of the BBE sonic maximizer for a while and purchased the plugin for computer recording and loved it. wanted to buy a rack unit and stomp pedal but I'm usually poor and the cheap used ones always slipped by before I had enough extra cash. So happy I found this work from Bajaman! you are the greatest man!

Is this project unity gain or more. Does anyone know who has allready built it? Could it do with and output pot to adjust what you give the next stage? You could even overdrive it then with a previous boost or overdrive and back it off so your signal doesn't get to hot. Iam assuming from looking at the schematic that madbean drew up that R17 the 56k on the last op amp just before the output you could change to a pot say 100k for starters so you can turn your output up and down with out going to crazy modding the original design. Any thoughts anyone?

hey paulbass what values on c4 and c5 did you mod your's to out of curiousty as i play bass also iam assuming you would have tried to get up higher than 50hz to about the between 150 to 200 i could be wrong. To stop the popping on changing the cap values use make before you break switchs. thanks

MODS - change the 39k resistor to a 10k + 50k lin potentiometer in series, for a midrange cut or boost control  . AND change the 47n capacitor for changing the lo contour turnover (try 33n - 100n), OR change the 3n3 ( try 2n2 - 10n) capacitor for changing the process (high frequency) turnover point.
Am I right in thinking increasing the value of the cap will lower the high frequency crossover point?

I've tried using an RC filter calculator with the various values in the schematic and they all come out wonky.

sometimes you can sit there punching a calculator all day and all you end up doing is punching your head into a wall. sometimes a suck and it and see approach or even put plugs in for the caps so there easily changed so you can easily adjust to taste is sometimes quicker than fucking around with a calculator when i studied electronics i tried to explain that to text book preachers but they wouldn't have it. Yet my stuff would be finished in half the time and work better go figure. They were still there punching there calculators.

Sorry to revive this thread, I just want to thank Bajaman for the fantastic work put into this pedal. Thanks a lot, Sir!

I've just finished my 1590A version shrinking Madbean's Bloviator layout. I had to put one resistor on the traces side, use a couple more jumpers and put the 10M input resistor in the switch, it worked perfectly.

Used a TL072, TL071 and LF347 (quad version of the LF353 Jfet input opamp).

i can do the electronics and make all my pedals work but stuffed if i can get boxes to look that good or even know where to get them. I have never been able to make the box look that good. If you have any secrets on how you do it please share.

Here's the tutorial I wrote for DIYSB.

And I made some weeks ago making a pedal.

Thanks for the comments!
