My sister's uncle's cousin's dog told me that it is a modified Danelectro compressor.

The CJ OD is based on the AMZ SoS and acc. to CJ Jack had been engaged too. CJ built a few and sold them to his customers.

I don't think they sound much different than a SoS or other TS-clones but they are rare and that's the reason for the hype and the astronomical prices.

That's odd, as Clay says it was based on a "major manufacturers" circuit that was supposed to be a "limiter"...

Sure doesn't sound like he's referring to a SoS....

The plot thickens.

I think at one point Clay was going to post the schematic to avoid being harassed for it and to combat the outrageous Ebay prices. How 'bout it Clay...my birthday's coming up. :D

Oh Mark, you're such a tease!

Just a thought. Clay says -

"I reworked it several times and then I posted a link to my schematic and asked for comments..."

What about checking The Way Back Machine?

Now that's an idea but, I don't know if it would be visible or not.

The Rotagilla wrote:All I wanted for my birthday was the Clay Jones overdrive schematic and I even mentioned it in a post about a month ago to give plenty of time to prepare. Clay even said at one point he would openly post it so all the hoopla would be avoided. It would have been a great day...my 38th year and Clay demystifying his contribution to the Mojo Museum. Luckily for Clay I'm on vacation and still celebrating my birthday today as well. C'mon Clay...give the gift that keeps on giving, it's better to give then receive and all that. Or if KT66 would like to share his King of Tone info with us...

I don't think Clay would mind me saying this-

Play with the idea of a "dirty compressor".

And no, I don't have the schematic or know much more about it than that. I have played with breadboarding a simple compressor that I added some "overdrive characteristics" to though. It was pretty crude but it had some promise for that sort of thing. I didn't take it any further- I'm too busy with my own stuff.

I always thought was an expander- hence the name. Whatever...

Take your favorite compressor circuit and play around with it.

Ok, that you don´t have to cry so much here is your chance:

You have to bid here:
https://cgi.ebay.com/Clay-Jones-OverDri ... dZViewItem

approx. ONLY !!!! $ 1.525,-- to buy this unit. Then you take some pictures from the guts and I will trace it for you for free !

But take care, one m***m (markm ??? ) with zero feedback already bid $ 1.500,-- !!!!

$1500 for a distortion box?!?!?! Yikes.. I've never heard of the CJOD, am I missing something? Apparently so. If there are folks cloning Z Vexx pedals, you can be sure this one is being cloned as well for that kind of change.

FWIW, the Expandora does have an expander in it. But you could probably tweak it to be a compressor with little effort. Now whether you want the clipping before, after or inside the compression stage is another question entirely.

Clay built only 50 of them. Tomo Fujita (Berklee Prof/Fusion player) uses one.

It's the typical economics of a rare piece that is in demand.

The swirl paint job sure reminds me of steve vai and grandlaugh, but I've never heard of this one before.
Could anyone enlighten me about this one?
I've learnt it's a limited run of 50, supply and demand thing, ok.
But, is it any good? Heavy or light OD? IC or discrete?
TS style?? :(

Thanks!

The swirl paint was done by the same guy that did the Vai/Landgraff stuff (can't remember his name).

My best recollection of the CJOD is it sounds kind of like a "dumble in a box"- very touch sensitive soft compression, blooms into harmonics, etc, etc. Tomo used it with his Fuchs ODS amp and I preferred the sound of the pedal to the dirty channel on his amp. Works great for fusion stuff. Tomo may have clips at his site or in the clip section of the gear page. You'll have to search around.

Edit: Oh, and it's *not* a tube screamer at all. Nothing like it. Check the posts at the beginning of the thread.

Sadly, if I had the extra $850, I'd buy it......

...and promptly throw it on "Ebay Japan", where I would make about $400.
