Just to keep things in perspective...
we've also had builders get offended, and ask that clones of their pedals NOT be called the original name because they weren't built by them and were just someone else's interpretation.

No disrespect taken. Take it as a token of appreciation for the free exchange of information.

I can understand that some builders take offense at what's going on here but I think it's pretty clear that with or without our consent, there are resources like this one that will post schematics of commercial products. Why pretend that it's not going on?

I actually ended up buying a barbershop and really like it. Great build quality and design, and it sounds great. Nice one Guillaume! :thumbsup

The bias might indeed be off. When sorting the J201s I use in the Barbershop, some have an Idss as low as 200uA while others crack the 1mA. The drain resistors are selected according to measured values. For the record, I bias around 2/3 supply.

What are the specs on your JFETs?

Sweet stuff, sounds pretty good to me. Definitely has the same character. Gotta love that brown sound, and those odd intermodulation products that stick out here and there.

Hi All, since it's supposed to snow several feet here tomorrow and probably end all life as we know it, I figured I'd ride out the frozen armageddon by perhaps building a pedal, maybe this one. My only issue is I don't have anything resembling the polarity protection jfet (VP3203). Can someone recommend an alternative that might be more commonly accessible? Or, if I promise not to plug the wrong polarity power supply in, could it be omitted altogether? Thanks much.

I say leave it out, it's really only a safety. As an alternative, you could put a diode in series if you don't mind the voltage drop.

Hi,

I'm very interested in building this pedal.

I just have a question: as Okonomyake said I also can't find a vp3203 and Guillaume Fairfield said

You mean: leave D1 at the place on the vero (C16-D16) but the other(s) mentionned "in series"? where to place it (them) ?

Could you specify ?

Tx

No, the series diode would replace R11, Q4 and D1. Anode at E17, cathode at C17.

Good luck with your build.

Thank you ro reply.

An for the value I was told that I need a shotky diode mA - 50 volts. Do you think it's enough ?

Yes it's plenty. Schottky because of the low forward voltage drop but you could even use almost any small signal type such as 1N4148 or 1N914.
