I've got one of those nasty things here. I'll take it apart tomorrow, and check your diagram.

Thanks for sharing!
Bought a bunch a cheap wahs last year but they were always metal cased unit. Most of the value in a wah is the enclosure, I feel.
Does it sound like a Vox? They did decrease the electrolyte that was originally 4uF to 2.2uF instead of the 4.7uF most modern wahs use...

I've never actually played a vox wah, nor did I play this one for long enough to comment. I stripped everything out of it and stuck a 10k pot in there and use it as an expression pedal for my DL4.
I have one of the metal cased daphon wahs here as well which I repaired. The pot crapped out a few weeks after the guy got it (He gave me this plastic one in exchange for fixing it). I'll try and remember to get some gut shots of the metal one before it goes back to him.

I had one of these as my first wah pedal, I remember it was very similar to a crybaby. I modded it with a few things and it sounded nice! If I remember there was a DPDT switch but only one side was used, so I was able to wire in true bypass!
My first mod

Your circuit diagram is correct. There are a huge number of things wrong with the design, not least that the footswitch can't ever work!
That said, it's surprisingly robust - mine got dropped yesterday from about 4m on to a concrete floor, and survived with a couple of minor scratches. It has a tendency to hum - the plastic case doesn't provide any screening, so I'm going to gut it, fit a different pot, and use it a a voltage-controller for a voltage-controller filter!

Cheers for checking the schematic. Will trace their metal cased wah in the next few days.

Where's the schematic? I am curious to see what it looks like...

I tried that, but I get nothing other than a little box with the file name in the upper left hand corner...

Here's a png version. Let me know if it works

That worked. Thanks!
It looks very similar to your standard inductor wah, with a couple of minor changes. It appears that the biggest changes are the emitter resistor value on Q1 and the 2.2uF cap.
Hmm... I might give the 2.2uF cap a try in one of my wahs and see how I like that.

FYI - R7 is 270 ohms (290 is not a standard value, so I looked again).
A friend gave me a broken Cry Baby last week - it got Coca Cola inside it, and the PCB tracks and many of the component legs had largely disappeared! I gutted it, and dropped the Daphon board into it, wired it for true bypass, and it sounds pretty good.

I'm going to modify it further so that it's a Wah when engaged, and a volume pedal when bypassed. This will make it much more useful!

Excellent idea.
I'll update the schematic tonight and re-upload.

Where did you find this schematic? And what components would be good to replace if I wanted a "better" tone? I know that seems a really broad kinda question, but it's pretty obvious the tone could be improved. I'm not looking for a Crybaby replica, just something that sounds less... cheap....

The obvious change would be the inductor and the resistor across it, but would you want to buy an expensive inductor for a cheap thing like that?. The easiest mod is to increase the value of the 33k across the coil.

Yeah, I was just looking at
http://www.geofex.com/article_folders/w ... tm#twowahs that dude has done heaps of research on Wah pedal fiddling. I wouldn't mind spending a bit of cash, as I spent a fair bit of time making a new steel case for it (I'm a fabricator). If I had known about the dropin crybaby replacement PCBs, I would have made the new case to fit on of them, but... That page also explores the options of wiring 2 wah pcbs together, to make a "true voice" system... could be cool to try out if I get the time

R7 is wrong - it's
390 ohms
