Anybody want to talk about copyright infringement?

Coca-Cola could sue and would win, I'm absolutely convinced. And they've got a bunch of lawyers waiting to eat guys like these alive...

Anyway, some of you might have read it already:
jakenold -- Boutique effects = DIY projects on: Today at 02:13:49 PM »

I just opened up my buddy's MG "The Drive" and discovered that inside of it was a J.D. Sleep BSAIB-PCB (with JD's name on it and everything). Does anyone know of such a deal, or has MG ripped off the GGG design?

From my point of view, this seems quite worrying. Of course, I might not know the whole story.

Kind regards, Jake
As people remarked the description of the circuit and the controls don't match. Don't they? BSIAB has only three controls, plus and internal bias trimpot

  • MG The Drive:
The Drive is a combination of a TS9 with a silicon fuzz sound, giving you endless variations of tones between the 4 knobs and the mini-toggle switch, from an early 70's fuzz to a creamy tube sound.

    Controls:
VOLUME: Controls the output of the pedal
    TONE: Bass and treble attenuation
BIAS: Acts with the tone as a "presence" control. Also attenuates the overall volume. When used with the "GAIN" knob in inverted positions you can get an out-of-phase pickup tone. Use your imagination!
    GAIN: Saturation!!
MINI TOGGLE SWITCH: Light - humbuckers; Diet - High gain guitars; Classic - Single Coils

Each The Drive pedal is hand-made in Brazil by MG and features:
    Hand-finished Case
    Alpha Pots
    True Bypass Switching
    LED Indicator
AC Adapter Jack (standard 9v negative-center - adapter not included)
    Metal Film Caps
    Switchcraft jacks
    Vintage transistors
AC power and vintage jfets! But let's keep an eye on that thread, pics might pop up.

What is being said about certain online pcb layouts, that you're only allowed to use it three times, is absolute nonsense. If you buy pcbs from ggg or tonepad, you can use them in boxes to sell them. If you make your own pcbs from the layout and sell boxes from them is not legal. They could sue... but will they?

If you want to make money at least take the trouble of doing your own layout I would say. Then again if you don't know AC from DC.... I'm not surprised your boasting about alpha posts :?

Ed, all and all I'm sad to see this happening - if it is the BSIAB indeed.

kt, sorry, edited that quote -- i thought i was drunk for a sec.
didn't see the board myself, check the diystomp thread. No pics yet.

I've found the secret: :D  -- specialty caps. Too bad only the labels came off but that old glue never flinches of course. Super mojo glue :

Coca-Cola could end that company really quick if it wanted to. Even the "Wavy Ribbon" device under the logo is a registered trademark.... not to mention the script and color scheme.

Unnngggghhhh..... again with the stupid Alpha pots!!! When will they learn!? Why do so many booteekers consider Alpha pots to be a "feature" worthy of highlighting? Dumb, dumb, dumb!

They want $229 for one of these stupid things? Lame!

I'm gonna hazard a guess that he didnt get permission to use Charles Bukowski's name, being that Charles passed away 13 years ago.

I think that all mg are made using ggg pcb. My ad3208 with coolaudio 3205 is identical to his "that's echo folks" and that's the only layout possible due to pcb dimensions.

the drive is such an original circuit, a fuzz face with a switchable input cap. We could reverse it and learn something :)

another quote from his webpage

You can say that CREAMY is a “fat booster” and enhance your overall sound, but it also warms your amp sound with a very light and obviously creamy saturation.
really? like a minibooster does?

cool info. thanks.

have you a/b'd your ad3208 with a real "thats echo"?

i had a look at the ggg site. they have the pcb available but no schem or layout instructions.. did ggg always do this? i presume it comes with instructions for parts placement..??

cheers

Hi guys,

I'll see if I can check out the parts used. It IS the BSAIB PCB.

We also have "That's Echo Folks", the Elvis and Hendrix fuzz, the alien booster and the McDonalds fuzz down at my friends shop.

It's kinda hard to check out the parts on some of the effects, as he has hot glued the pcb's to the enclosure (...)

Kind regards, Jake (jakenold)
