I didn't include a tone control because they cause loss of gain, and I didn't want that. I've no plans to re-breadboard/re-draw the circuit/schematic with a tone control. Have a look at some other amp schematics if you want some ideas.

Sorry does that sound a little curt? This is DIY after all - do it yourself - you'll learn more. :D

Notrik82 wrote:I have ordered the max1044 from maxim THANK YOU
Can you tell me which way the max1044 ic mounts
which way is the notch/dot?

also i not sure on the pin config of the 6111 and 5672 sub mini tubes (i have the data sheet)
but what I mean is on the bead board and PCB what goes where,I don't see the pin number on any the the layouts.

I've found a few 12volt wall warts BUT they all have different ratings amps, millamps,
what type and what values are your transformers?

ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU

Pin 1 for the MAX, 6111 and 5672 is shown on the layout by the dark grey dot.

MAX pin 1: top right.
6111 pin 1: bottom left
5672 pin 1: left

5672 data sheet: http://frank.pocnet.net/sheets/127/5/5672.pdf
The red dot on the tube is next to pin 1.

6111 data sheet: http://frank.pocnet.net/sheets/127/6/6111.pdf
Bottom view - there is a gap between pin 1 and pin 8.

The power supply needs to be 12 volts regulated, and at least 500ma. Don't use an unregulated supply - they can put out a lot more that 12 volts - which would cause damage to the MAX and the tubes' heaters.

Yeah, it's a nice easy project! I'm sure a 6021 would work very well in this circuit. A 500ma power supply is fine for this circuit, as the MAX1044 draws very little current, unlike the SMPS power supplies in the JJS amp and Superfly/SubZero. As for tone shaping, you could consider cathode resistors and bypass caps, though an actual tonestack would reduce the gain too much to be useable. I like to submini amp you linked to by the way!

Oo I wouldn't order straight from them unless it was a free sample (just got mine) better to get the MAX from smallbear etc if the shipping is high.

Made up this.

Don't know if it will be of any use to anyone, it's probably one of the messiest vero's around. The solder pads on it show where to add wires and if you're building from it be sure to have the schematic as well (like you always should...). Also wasn't completely sure how to put the transformer in or how one would go about putting it in if they were building it.

Rick said he'd like to see pictures of the Murder One I made, so here it goes...

Thanks again Rick, this was a fun one to build! Sounds pretty cool too - works great for "quiet" Led Zeppelin!

I'll open it up tonight and snap some pics. Not as pretty as yours though! Next time I'll take pictures earlier, and more often! :slap:

This is awesome. I wonder how well it takes pedals. Would you mind sharing how you added the negative bias switch? Sounds like a great idea.

Here's the schematic for the version I'm building nowadays, with the biasing switch implemented:

The perf and PCB layouts earlier in this thread are based one the version 3 schematic, I haven't updated the layout artwork yet - I build these onto perf nowadays (as people seem to value my perf builds), so I kind have the version 5 layout on my head.

The latest builds for buyers:

Yes, but you will need to modify the PCB slightly to add the bias switch.
