Okay guys, here's a fun one to play around with.

I was merely tapped to post this, and I was in no way involved with the reversing or drawing the schem. I don't want it to seem like I am trying to take credit here. I'm just the messenger.

This has been played around with a bit on the breadboard, and it is believed that the schematic below is in fact an accurate rendering of the BJFE Dyna Red Distortion. The schematic was donated to FSB anonymously. Apparently this version was slightly modified from the stock circuit on request of the purchaser. Don't know much beyond that. Others here can comment more extensively and with more authority than I can.

This version was modified to contain slightly more lower mids. A simple change in the feedback loop caps should get you back to where the original is.

You can also see that in the ProCo Brat/Roadkill... it had four 1N4148 diodes in the loop along with the usual to ground.

I didn't know the Brat used that clipping arrangement. I've seen the concept before, on Beavis's Rat mods and BYOC's Rat type pedal, not sure if both sets of diodes are used at once on those pedals. Bjorn is a pretty sharp fellow, bet it sounds great.

Woah woah woah wait. How is this a variation of the Honey Bee? Is there now an available HBOD schem? Also, whats up with the opamp in there from a builder who often says his circuits are all discrete? Confused. Thats what I am.

As soul will confirm a 100n cap instead of the 0.47uF one should get you the stock sound. Even more fun would be tointegrate the timmy bass control into a build, ultimate flexibility.

I never have luck in LED Clipped devices.....CrunchBox first then DynaRed.
I'm using 3mm diffused RED LED.
It seem lose some PRESENT.
when shop for LED for clippers, Is there any particular parameter i need to look into ?

Sometimes putting another diode in series will help it to sound better. I think a BAT41 in series can make an LED sound much more smooth. It seems that some LEDs tend to turn on too sharply - the different type in series gives it a softer knee (sometimes!).

I tried diffused yellow led and it work better now. It sound more transparent and yet the distortion is heard at the back.

Just take note of the fact that Paul says (in the Timmy thread) that in the next iteration of the Timmy he is planning on moving the bass cut ahead of the opamp stage. I guess a variable resistor in parallel with a series cap?

The bass cut integration is currently affecting the gain of bass frequencies amplified within the opamp stage. I can't see the advantages in making the change proposed, hmmmmm but maybe, whereabouts does he mention it, I'm struggling to find it
