in the gated position of the switch, the fuzz is VERY gated, and no sound is coming unless the fuzz pot is at very low settings.

is this normal?
The answer comes a bit late, but nevertheless:

I had the same thing and noticed, that the collector of the second transistor was pretty low - starved transistor. So no problem, a trim pot in parallel to the collector resistor and bob´s your flaming uncle. This runs the transistor a bit hotter.

You have to find a sweet spot that does the farting so that is sounds to your like.

This is probably the fine-tuning R.G. mentions. Some transistors may work right away, but some obviously don´t. I used BC237´s that happened to rumble around the drawer

I like the sound of the fuzz.

have fun,
-helmut
