Check these out:

I found these for sale today at a local supermarket for about $40 each. The cases are metal and quite heavy.
They also look identical to the "Daphon" branded pedals selling in the UK which Sock Puppet mentioned in another thread.
Could be very useful with some tweaks. I'll try to get ahold of one soon to give a report.

They look like the Daiphon pedals that were on Ebay a while back.

I got one of the Daphon overdrive pedals off Ebay last year for under $30. If anyone's interested, here's a couple of gut shots:

Awesome, no SMD! That means these guys can be easily modded.
Thanks!

In the USA, search Best Buy for Starcaster - three pedals for Fender's low-end range at around $39 each.

In the UK there's an ebay store, >>Harrier Music<< selling the Daphon stuff at £19.99 plus £4.99 p&p. £18.99 for the distortion. Searching for Daphon finds cheaper Buy It Nows, e.g. flanger for £12.99 + £5 p&p >>here<<.

I like this thread, so I retitled it from just Maestro Gibson... to

The Cheapo Pedal Buyer's Guide

So if you find more cheap pedals sources, please update this link. If you are actually working on one, please share your findings with us in a separate thread.

thanks

Sweet. I've been looking for a US source for the analog delay. I believe they are the same as the Analogman AR20DL:

I've found a guy on eBay who sells them but he's located in Australia.

(They're out of the delay atm.)

Also, the First Act pedals at Toys R Us might be worth checking out. At $40, the distortion doesn't seem like a great deal, but the chorus and delay are also $40. I like the enclosures--they seem really sturdy.

What is the IC in the Daphon Comp, Sock Puppet? I can't read it from the picture.

Poor picture I know. I'd put everything away before I'd seen it.

The I.C. is an LM3080N. There are also 6 x 2SC1815, 3 x 2SK30A and a 78L09 regulator.

The pedal weighs 628g without a battery.

I bought the First act Delay from Toys R Us and it was pretty bad. If I remember correctly it used a PT2399 chip. On longer repeat times the sound had this low bit-rate digital crunch soung going on. I ended up returning it and I got the distortion. It dose sound pretty bad but I plan on tracing it and seeing what I can do to tweak it.

What kind of circuit does the E20DL use? A bucket brigade? What is the longest delay time? How are they doing an analog that cheap, regardless of where it's made? Is this waiting to get modded into a DMM?

I was saying it looked like the Analogman pedal. He says right on his page that it's the same thing.

http://analogman.com/delay.htm

So, he swaps out the compander, replaces the stock 3208 for a 3205, adds a few trimpots and makes a couple other tweaks.
