Small Bear has the p90 fets for cheaper than anyone I've seen, but still (from memory) 75c each so buying bulk adds up quickly, especially considering I've seen people say 80 fets reaped 2 matching sets!

Sorry to hijack the thread!
I know people have great things to say about smallbear, but I found their service very poor on the one experience I had with them. significant delays and pretty terse emails from them when I asked about the order. ymmv

Not to get further off track - but.......

I have also been one of the harshest critics against SmallBear for about the last year.

I can tell you - from personal experience.....my last two SB orders were processed and left their facility before my order from PPP which was placed within minutes of each SB order was even processed or replied to.

PPP had always been my benchmark for a DIY distributor w/regards to processing and shipping.

I'll eat some crow here and say - give SB another chance. They've really brought things back together.

YMMV, FWIW, AFAIK etc. etc. :D

Small cap value error on my layout: C7 should be 0.1uf, not 0.01uf. I will amend and re-upload the Photobucket image, in the interests of perfection!

if that's the case, should C5 also be 0.1? just seeing if it's symmetrically following the other side of the switch.

No, C5 is correct at 0.01uf. The whole thing with the Univibe caps ration option is for the caps to be of a 1:10 ratio as opposed to being symmetrical, hence 0.01uf and 0.1uf - see the schematic and JC's webpage. I've corrected the layouts now anyway.

sweet as thanks.. I've amended my PCB layout.. would be cool of someone is able run over it to tell me if I've goofed anything?

I've just finished building this on perfboard (my first effort on perfboard) and I have to say, it's a lovely sounding phaser!
I used a 4PDT switch so that I could choose between 2 and 4 stages. It took a little while to work out I was doing something wrong. Originally I had linked points A-D and B-C on the switch for the 2-stage opetion before realising I should have a 10k resistor between B and C. Works like a charm now!
Getting it all in the box was, er, interesting, especially as I wanted the battery option, but it does all fit, just! That explains why my pedal is somewhat asymmetric......

I have a feeling that I'll have to build a few more for friends.
Cheers,
Mark.

Dear all, I'm sorry to resurrect this very old post, those days i'm trying to mix the thing up with a new build.
I'm actually trying to build an origianal MXR Phase 45 (without the JC Maillet mods, or at least only the vibe switch) + the 2-extra-stage mods.

From what I can see the 2-stage daughter board reported here have some "inconsistency" between the verolayout and the schematic.
Here follows my suggestions for the typos:
  • In the Verolayout of the daughter board, R2 is reported as 10R, but it's 10K (from the schematic)
  • In the text referring to daughterboard, the one quoted, the two resistors on the copperside are R2 and R3 and not R4,R5 which are visible :D
I'll give you more updates once i'll get my hands on all the component which i'm ordering.
Actually I'll base my project on this MXR Phase 45 original layout
http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/201 ... se-45.html
plus this brilliant mod of 2 extra stages.

Cheers!
