The IC has been sanded, but not properly and the lettering is very tiny, but I think
CA3130
I have never seen such diversity in resistor in any electronic device: a red carbon comp 1/2W, carbon film 1/4W and 1/8W, three different type of metal film (bright blue, dark green, light green)...
Now are you planning to do a special order, or will you just use the crap lying around your workbench?

Sorry, I got sidetracked this evening.
Black diodes are 1N4007
Ceramic disc cap on the ic is 100pF
Transistor seems to be more properly sanded than the IC: ?
Red wima's 2 x 22nF and 1 x 47nF
Blue wima in parallel with 47k is 4,7nF
here's a pic, but more tomorrow, have to get to bed now

Center lug of the Nature pot is connect to ground on the input jack.
On of the outer lugs goes to the green WIMA capacitator, the other side of which was connected somewhere on the component side. It got disconnected during degooping because it was just floating in the goop.
BJF's improvised layout requires and presupposes a goop covering, otherwise this box would keep working for 2 gigs straight.
I think there is no other solution that to desolder the green wima's.

Have to bump this to the top.
These are the degooping pictures of the Honey Bee, first published for the contributors of the Tracer's Fund, as promised. There are a lot more to come as well as a preliminary schematic that left everybody utterly disinterested.
more later

Nothing really new then? Anyway, it's a good thing to have this opportunity... Thanks a lot to you and to all the contributors!modman wrote:a preliminary schematic that left everybody utterly disinterested
- Are you a mod or a rocker?
- Uh, no, I'm a mocker.

Thanks for all of the hardwork!!modman wrote:There are a lot more to come as well as a preliminary schematic that left everybody utterly disinterested.
I wonder if de-gooping pedals is like revealing magic tricks - once you know how it is done, the magic is gone.

my interest has never been more peaked.
thanks for doing the de-goop which appears to have been somewhat similar to an archeological dig.

I have all the parts on the board populated... so all the real work is done... now I just have to get it working.

These photos make an Effector 13 pedal look like a rock solid barber build. How bout those years of lying about all-discrete circuits too...

So you guys really want to see the IC?Whoismarykelly wrote:How bout those years of lying about all-discrete circuits too...
I made a copy of the original thread for the Tracer's fund, so the rest of the pics will be above, as all threads are organized chronologically...

urr,
the build quality isn't that nice, that's for sure!
oh yeah and I can happily remember those old DISCRETE DAYS!
*I CAN SEE A LIAR, SITTING BY THE FIRE*
shame on you björn!
the FOLK DRIVER looks way more creative that this dirty little thing!
so what IC is that?
let me guess, a CA3130?

I see BJF style of wiring etc... which isn't the best. But now I think as thought before that Bjorn is trully genius! Ghandi, I saw bunch of RAT mods and have never seen any mod for RAT with CA3130 or any od/dist fx with it. It's very easy to say "let me guess what IC is there" now

Speaking of guessing, the board pictures pretty much suggest the HB could be "Dyna Green Distortion"--a variation of the Dyna Red Distortion. Check the DRD schem here:
https://www.freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5502
The circumstantial evidence:
1) The same author
2) The statement about disinterest in the circuit after starting to trace it
3) Two green LEDs v/s two red LEDs
4) Two back to back 1N4007 diodes in both
5) A lonely 1N4007 and a lonely Zener-like diode in both
6) A single 8 pin IC in both
7) A single FET or TRANSISTOR or TO-92 device in both
8 ) The same number and function of the controls in both
9) Approximately the same complexity in terms of the number of resistors and capacitors. In particular, the HB has 5 electros while the DRD has 6; nonetheless one of the electros in the DRD is 0.47uF, so it could be perfectly implemented with a non electro cap in the HB.
10) There is a statement in the third post of the thread linked above suggesting the DRD is a variation on the HB. At that time there was not much tangible evidence, but these latest pictures certainly support that.

then clay jones is a genius too...
IMO just stickin' a different op-amp in there doesn't make you a genius.
he may have some very good ears...
but remember all the bullshit about the honey bee, dyna red etc. using only discrete stuff...
pretty tuff lie, that's my point!
