This is just a frankensteining of a Brian May Boost->Tone Control->Blackfire (Thanks to Joe Davisson)->LPF.

Have fun.

Do you also have a schematic for this?

I'll have a look and see.
If I don't, Doug H does!

So you're no longer asking interested builders to acquire the schematic directly from you?

Nope. I quite worrying about it last March.

Now you inspired me to give another show to the Highway 89. The one I built didn't worked correctly because of a bad pot (I used the pot in another effect and saw it wasn't working). I put the board in a box with all my "in progress" builds, now it's time to bring it back to life  . Also, please stop to post links and info about cool circuits, my list of "to build" effects is big already :P .

Moved discussion on DougH's Meteor to the DIY Stompboxes folder for now. Once somebody whips up a good verified layout, we can put it back in the project folder.

I think these circuits are more worth discussing that your average boutique clone. Thanks for making this stuff available Doug!

I built one of these ( and a DrZ route 66 clone too - it shares the same weird tone control), it is a very unique sounding pedal, and an interesting mix of ideas - thanks Doug

Anyone had luck running a Highway 89 after a buffer?

Why would anyone want to do that? It's not designed for that use- passive pickups only.

Ah the Hwy89. One of my all time favorites. I put a power jack on it to test my regulated PS and it worked great. I use it all the time and didn't want to waste batteries. All my other pedals still need a 9 volt battery.

This thing sounds good. High gain. Some nice bite too it.

Hey Doug

Just to clarify. The pots you used on the tone controls are log taper correct?

The gain control with a 10K-B pot doesn't have very much cleanish range so a log pot there would help this...So all log pots would seem to be the cure...

Just like the Dr Z Route 66 guitar amplifier, the treble control acts very much like a gain control - keep it down if you want a slightly cleaner sound, or wind it up for a searing lead tone
cheers

This thing has been on my build list for 2 years because it keeps getting moved back (now behind the "Voodoo Vibe" and Triangle knob Big Muff)..... I wonder if I'll build this beast before I get carted off to the old folks home!!
EDIT: ***Well alright, this post just made me a "breadboard brother"!!

Just messing around and put the Hwy89 into a ROG Pro Tweed. This combination sounds fantastic. The tone is strong and deep and the sustain really stretches.
