I felt just like a Guru Boutiquer when I did this one!!
This is a very versatile Tremolo built with relatively easy to find parts.

I have on my "to-do" list, the schem for this circuit but I have not had the time to do it yet and when I have had the time, I forget about it!

Here are some quick soundclips of the heartthrob in action.

Just saw that I called it "heartbeat"...I'll fix that soon.

Nice John, way to demo/soundclip a trem! All the bases covered.

I've built this circuit and can tell you it's a good one. I've got a Boss PN-2 an EA and the Heart Throb. The HT is the one that stays on my pedal board. The speed switch makes it really versatile.

I really like this one a lot, but I'm having a problem with distortion at slower speeds and when I strike chords. Just my build, or has anyone else experienced this? I used 2n5089's instead of 2N5088's.
Viva Markm!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used 2N5089s as well...forgot to mention that...mine is clear and distortion free from what I have found.
Do you have an audio probe? See if you can find where the distortion comes into the circuit.
I'll try it and see if I can get it to distort and report back if it does ...

Thanks John. Also the distortion is more noticeable on mine when the depth knob is halfway or less. I better just start debugging.

I'm still simply dying to build this. Sound samples just blow me away. I'm going to have to track me down some 5088's soon.

Here's the original factory schematic for the Schaller, but mind the value changes.

From the below page where you can also find a more readable redraw of the factory schem.

Thanks Goop buster! I appreciate it.
I have a bunch more samples to upload...I'm hoping to get something better than dial up here and step into the 20th century..HA HA
By the way. If anyone has anything to contribute as far as sound samples I'll host them on my page...Just let me know.

2n5088
I found em here
http://www.smallbearelec.com/Categories.bok
I also found em here but which ones are best suited?
http://www.mouser.com/search/refine.aspx?Ntt=2n5088
I am going to build this but I would love to know which ones would be best suited.
Thanks to all you gurus for any help.

2N5088 @ smallbear = $0.30
@ mouser = $0.28
@ futurlec = $0.10
Futurlec's and Mousers prices is 1/3 of smallbear's. Aron doesn't have them (only 5089 and 5087 but they sell at $0.16 ($5/30pcs).
Pick your price, but remember that an average electronics store will have them too, or a replacement - ...

What I was realy asking is on the mouser page they have all different kinds of the 2n5088. I was wondering if some were better than others. What do the denotations on the end mean "g" et. . ?
Also the schematic calls for a 5.8k resistor and I am having a hard time locating one of those. would a 5.6 or 5.9 suffice? Will the tone suffer if I do not use a 5.8?
Thanks in advance to any and all answers. I am a rank newbie at this have only built one pedal so far. The Grace from runnoffgroove.

Also the schematic calls for a 5.8k resistor ....
It should be a 6k8 resistor....

In other words a 6.8k resistor?
Then I am guessing that the 5.8k resistor listed on schematic is the wrong value?
If so are there any other values on Schem that are wrong?
Thanks for your help analog

The only differences I can see comparing the Schaller trem schematic and Markm's layout is the value of these caps. C7 5uf is changed to 22uf. C6 10uf is changed to a 22uf also. I'm not sure why.
I'm almost done building this and can't wait to try it. I'll be using a 50K pot instead of a 25K pot which the original used. I didn't have a 25K on hand so I hope it works OK.
