hello first off excuse the noob question
i want to add a 'starve/dying battery' feature to a fuzz pedal i have (it uses 9V DC power)
i looked around and found a diagram, i notice i just need a linear pot to achieve the battery starve feature
thing is, some people say to use a 5k linear pot and some people say to use a 10k linear. also some people say you can use ANY pot
i was wondering what would the difference be between using the 5k and the 10k pots? would there be much of a difference? i dont really understand electronics, would the 10k pot allow me to provide even less power to the fuzz pedal, is that how it works? or is it more to do with range? im as lost as those people on that island.
i'd quite like to be able to go from the top end (9.5 Volts) down to about 2-3 Volts, with quite a smooth range if possible rather than have the pot only work well in a small range of the knob!
i'm hoping the starve feature wont damage my power supply will it?
also dont know if anyone can help with this last question, but my fuzz pedal is actually POSITIVE ground as opposed to the more common negative ground found in most effects pedals. this doesnt mean i cant still use the starve feature does it?
if anyone is interested this is the link i have been using for the 'starve' feature: http://www.beavisaudio.com/Projects/DBS/
thanks for any suggestions!!
Pot Question, Not Sure on 10k or 5k =[

The lower your pot, the more current draw from the power supply. But the voltage divider works just the same, and you can get any voltage from 9V to 0V. But bear in mind that your pedal current is going to travel between the +9V lug and the center lug of your pot, so don't choose a too big value... 10k should be fine.user123 wrote:i was wondering what would the difference be between using the 5k and the 10k pots?
Unless you use a too low pot which would draw far too much current and almost act like a short circuit, there is no danger.user123 wrote:i'm hoping the starve feature wont damage my power supply will it?
No problem, it will work the same.user123 wrote:also dont know if anyone can help with this last question, but my fuzz pedal is actually POSITIVE ground as opposed to the more common negative ground found in most effects pedals. this doesnt mean i cant still use the starve feature does it?
- Are you a mod or a rocker?
- Uh, no, I'm a mocker.
