I was in an electronics store yesterday getting components. When I asked for my list of components, the woman helping me kept asking what wattage I want it in... and I realized I have no idea. How do I determine the wattages that the components should be?
I appreciate any answers that could clear this up.
Just when I start to think everything is becoming clear, I hit something I don't understand.
What wattage do I need for resistors/capacitors?
- lolbou
- Old Solderhand
the wattage needs to higher to what the component will have to bear...
for basic pedals, mostly, 1/4w should be ok. Even some 1/8W are used in TS5 or in BK BUtler Tube Driver.
But keep in mind that the more current in your resistor, the more power it has to dissipate as heat... P=R.I²
So when it comes to power (in your amp or so), the wattage comes higher (and he components bigger)
I hope that helps, try some googling on it, the net is full with sites that explain this basics...
