I am a complete newbie with building electronics.

I picked this Grace schematic because it looks like a simple build.
I have it layed out as far as I can tell on breadboard.

My problem comes with connecting the in and out with switch and battery.

I see where you hook up the battery on it but where does the negative lead go?

I am also confused about the leads on the pots and the in and out jacks. Where do they go?

I wish I could find a layout that shows the whole thing wired together. I have a spdt swith to turn it on and off but again more confusion.

If anyone knows of a book or something that might teach me how to do this I would very much appreciate it. If someone wishes to draw it out for me: what connects to what from shematic that would be oh so appreciated.

the negative lead goes to ground.

"vol 1" means it goes the leg 1 of the pot (as looked upon with the shaft pointing UP towards you).
etc. etc..
1 - 2 - 3 = pot legs 1, 2 and 3.

and to add..
if you want to get into DIY pedal electronics, i suggest you buy a kit from smallbear electronics, banzaieffects, MEK or Das Musikding.

I took a chance and downloaded the how to guide from Brian Wampler for 14 bux and found a schematic that showed me the basics of layout on a breadboard.

I followed it and adjusted a few things.

Plugged in nadda. ..

Oh yea forgot to run that to ground.
Nadda.

Checked to see if the volume was turned up. Nope.

Turned it up. WOW!!!!!!!

She be working and working good!!!!

I can not tell you how elated I am with my first build. I am tickled pink as some say. I will not be able to sleep tonight.

Now I got to order me a 3dpdt switch and get this in a nice box I have.

Going to etch the bugger with a cool design and label it with what it is called. Grace. I feel blessed by the Grace tonight.

Congratulations on your first build. Plugging into something you made and playing music is a great feeling. It only gets better from here.

Also, pedalpartsplus seems to have the cheapest 3pdt switches around, but I haven't checked effects connection lately. You'll want a good cheap supply of those things, as you are now an official DIY addict.
