Digitech - WH-2 Whammy

I am wanting to RE Case an old Whammy 2 because its real flimsy. The goal was to just re case and replace the rocker with a pot w/ a big knob as i only use it as a SET/Fixed effect, never rocking it while playing...... The design is making this really hard to act on.
The rocker pedal is REALLY unusual to ME. I have never seen anything like it. Inside it is physically moving a red led close or further away from a LDR according to the foot position (heel/toe)
Here are some pics. The square cardboard hole is where the clear foot rocker arm is moving the led... I took pics in several foot positions to show how it moves.
I appreciate any and all creative ideas as to how I could get this control cased up differently!
Thanks

just to help, Q1 is the ldr.

Measure the LDR and replace it with the appropriate potentiometer (wired as a variable resistor)? Seems pretty straight forward.

Q1 is no LDR but a light dependent diode.sevinisthenumber wrote:just to help, Q1 is the ldr.

So that's easy, you gave the answer yourself.sevinisthenumber wrote:I am wanting to RE Case an old Whammy 2 because its real flimsy. The goal was to just re case and replace the rocker with a pot w/ a big knob as i only use it as a SET/Fixed effect, never rocking it while playing......
Mount a led in front op the LDD (light dependent diode) and use a pot to vary the led current. Bear in mind that you may want to add an extra resistor at both the hot and the cold lug of that pot to be able to use the full range of the pot for control. (The LED in the original pedal is always "on". Therefore the variation in light strength on the sensor is far less than from full on to full off).

So glad I asked!! My brain just didnt think like that! Thanks!

A little off topic for this thread but does anyone know the details behind the control pot or multi-position switch or whatever it is in one of these? I've got a friend with one that's broken, but I have no idea what the replacement part would be.

You posted that question in the WH-1 thread too, but if you need info on the knob for the WH-1 then you shouldn't post the question here because I believe that the WH-2 does not have any knobs on it. Only the WH-1 and the WH-4 have knobs as far as I know. I have both and I could take pictures of the knob on either one, but I didn't think you needed pictures because I assumed that you already have the knob part, but it just doesn't work.Dr Tony Balls wrote:A little off topic for this thread but does anyone know the details behind the control pot or multi-position switch or whatever it is in one of these? Here is a picture of the WH-2: http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/di ... whammy/wh2

Can i do a variable diode like a potentiometer? ha!????? Or should i mount an LED stationary and have a pot controlling the voltage/brightness?Dirk_Hendrik wrote:Q1 is no LDR but a light dependent diode.sevinisthenumber wrote:just to help, Q1 is the ldr.
If so, how do i know what pot value, etc to ensure the sweep of the light reaction is like that of the foot rocker moving the led manually?
Thanks
