You can simply have a second set of pots and switch between them with a 3PDT toggle. Switch leg 2 of the rate pot, and legs 2 and 3 (or perhaps only leg 2?) of the depth pot. No need for a second LFO.marmora wrote:Is there a way to make this into a dual chorus? As in, with a switchable second rate and depth.
BAJA Small Clone
Incredible, how you could squeeze that in a B enclosure (and it looks great)!

this should work fine, but you will have to use a bigger enclosure. You can simply have a second set of pots and switch between them with a 3PDT toggle. Switch leg 2 of the rate pot, and legs 2 and 3 (or perhaps only leg 2?) of the depth pot. No need for a second LFO.

You can only use the 3pdt should not be a 4pdt?
Hi,
just finished my baja small clone. nice layout, works fine.
i have just one problem that can be fixed i'm sure : the speed knob is...too speed
. I mean the minimum is already fast. When set to the max, the effect dissappears, as it is really too fast! i compared it to the video-test posted on proguitarshop: the minimum speed on my smallclone corresponds to the 2 hours setting on the EH. I have to fix that because this baby does really nice sounds at low rates...
anyone knows how to fix it?
thanks,
cheers

Ok,
i've changed the 2u2 tantalum cap with a 3u3 electrolytic cap near the RATE pot. Now it works great to me. less speed. Really huge sound
. more sparkling than with my Boss CE2 that is sweetier. Sounds different but as good.
Can anybody tell me the difference between a tantalum and a electrolytic cap? in sonic terms?
thanks Baja for the layout and the PCB transfer file. I really like the 1590B enclosure, even though it's sometimes not quite easy to fit all the stuff in it.

hi bajaman, i'm noob in this area so a have couple of questions!
i made two small clones on your layout and none of them are working. sound is pasing trough but no chorus effect. probably same error on both of them.
i'm looking on tonepad schematic and i wonder about diode direction. negative pole on 1n914 i facing Q1 (5087), and on your layout + sign is twords Q1. it's same for D2. maybe i dont know how to read this
here's some voltages from transistors
Q1 5087
E 5,51
B 4,67
C ground
q2 (next to 4047)
E 7,25
B 7,86
C 7,9
q3
E 4,95
B 5,49
C 7,92
are potentiometer's 3 2 1 (like on tonepad layout) or 1 2 3?
what's trimmer for?

Just wanted to say: HEAD - that etch is badass! clean lines, good design, very nice indeed.
OK -back to tech talk.

Apart from a 100n capacitor ( should be 10n) I cannot see any obvious errors - the diode orientations are correct
The control pots are supposed to be mounted the other way around and under the track side of the PCB. I use a small rubber insulating stick on pad on the back of the control pots to stop them shorting out against the PCB tracks.
Double check all your component values AND check the board tracks - make sure there are no shorted traces etc.
Also make sure you have the correct transistor type - Q1 is pnp, the others are npn types.
good luck

Thank you! Yeah I must admit that I'm pretty proud of the "Hydra".

Hej,
I had a similar problem. Reason was what I tried to mark in the attached file. If you have these tracks on your PCB please cut them, otherwise they can cause a malfunction like you tend to have.
Cheers
Helge
Edit: When I did a second glance on your PCB it seems to me it is indeed the problem. If I don't see it wring you have these traces on your board. Cut them! Then it should work.
Edit: I attached a gut pic of my last built.

Hi,I have been a member for a while now but never posted any questions, i have made the Baja Small Clone but have problems with it, i get bypass sound but when switched on no chorus.I've used two 3904's and a 3906 for the trannies but my readings look off
3906 C=0 B=0 E=0
3904 (near CD 4047) C=9.38 B=9.37 E=.01
3904 (near 4558) C=9.4 B=.01 E=0.00
any clues? i can post pics if i learn how and more voltages if required
i've still to check all resistors in case of value errors
I have made fair no of pedals over the years and have had a great deal of success but when i encouner something like this i'm usually stumped, thanks Crawford.

Hi Crawford
Did you check HEAD's post ( 2 back in the thread) that may be your problem
