I personally prefer the sound of the original unit. Maybe I'm biased by knowing it is the original, but I think it has better bottom and a more defined sound. The variation introduced by where the camera mic points to makes it difficult to make a more accurate comparison.

Old and new sansamp GT-2 pedals are compared. They sound clearly different.

I'm a big fan of Tech21. SansAmps are great pedals, I have an original GT2 and Classic and I love them both.

The classic is better for more saturated distortion and the GT2 is better for OD kinda sounds. I use mine on the tweed setting via a 65' RI twin reverb, sounds pretty cool.

The GT2 is advertised as a simplified classic but it sounds totally different and you cant get classic sounds out of it. The classic is the better of the two IMO, but they both rock anyways.
If you can’t buy it, build it. If you can buy it, clone it.
