Hi!

As a project in school I was planning on maybe building a tiny amplifier, like the ones Vox have. A small amplifier that you can carry around in your pocket, but I was thinking, is it even doable? Because I think I might need some help with it, with the way of thinking and figuring stuff out, if you understand what I mean.

Help is much appriciated.

Regards

Here's another easy one:

Based on the NJM 2043D audio amp on a chip.

Oh sweet! Thanks guys! I'll think I'll go with the latter one! And I'll just attach a speaker to it too, and it will be perfect! But can you really do that? Just throw in a speaker? Or am I just being naïve? :D

Yes, a speaker can be added.

Attach the out to the (+) terminal on the speaker, and the ground to the (-) terminal.

You can get even smaller if you do surface mount stuff. That's how the commercial units are done.

SO how small you want to go is this small enough. not much gain but its got some drive to it.

Image

this ones the size of two packs of smokes with the older model powersupply but it will run two 4*12 marshall cabs loud enough to get the cops called on you in the middle of the day. Well at least that was the experience at mothers music

Image

This last one was a prototype we later converted to run a single 6v6 at 400+ nice and crunchy

Image

btw last time i posted people were commenting on the "fender reverb transformers" i am friends with zvex but not going to trip on his bag man. these are the champ transformers i could have gotten more saturation out of the reverb ones but i got a great deal at the time and always thought about upgrading the powersupply and tube section on the smaller amps. ciao for now

I really like these three! And I agree with the two gentlemen before me.

Also have a question, which may sound stupid, but I'm not experienced at all. How do you connect this amplifier to a speaker? And oh yeah, how much can it cost to build one of these? Because this might be perfect for me! This is gonna be a great project, thanks alot.

i want to know where you get the roll bars thats freaking cool. let me know if you see a smaller tube amp i need a challenge. i am currently working on a super small marshall esque mosfet amp that is less than 3" long 1.5" wide 2" tall that outputs 30watts average. no pics yet i am tweaking out the actual circuit that i am playing with in a full size combo amp. the idea is to get a really nice usable mosfet amp that you can put in your case.

yes the output is in the back along with the powersupply connection. i found if you put your transformers in a case and rectify the dc on the hv and lv side you can use a stock ac adaptor with the middle lug as ground the hot lug as hv and neutral as you lv.

thats what i was doing with the small amps back in the day. i am still wanting to see someone do a full size medium to high gain amp with full size parts smaller than mine.

I had the same in my very first pedalboard: cupboard handles, found at the local DIY store....

Don't you have any specific transformer part number?

I don't think it's possible to go much smaller than this:

my transformer is a standard fender champ
