Hello
is there a pcb for this version without charge pump?

I would really prefer to build this one: I hate the charge pump systems cause I've experienced lots of problems with these in other builds which are 10Vpp audio output ( traditional hiss and hum).
I think it's not a clean psu and reminds me the decoupling psu from computers
Maybe I put too much mojo attemps in psu's but... I also love 9V batteries.

Thanks

by tonight, we ride
I put this circuit on the breadboard last night, but thought i'd check for any layouts before attempting one myself. Any update on your vero layout for this? If not i'll attempt one, but be forewarned it would be my first using any sort of CAD program.

Yes. I've built about seven or eight of them so far.
Was that on vero, or did you do a PCB? I'm interested in trying one of these...

Does anyone have a soundclip for this? Or did someone build this and can describe how close to the KLON it is?
thanks, Glenn

Hey does anyone have a perf or vero layout for this one? Just curious.

thanks

Hi,
I've build Mictester's version of the Klon, and I think I got it right, it does have the character like in thevideos I've seen. However, I have some questions.

I do get a volume boost, but its a slight one. Is this due because we're using 9v as opossed to the original 18v on IC2?
Or should I've be getting a lot more boost (to compare, my Son of Screamer and OCD clones have way much more volume available).

Thanks.

The difference in maximum possible volume from a circuit at 9V versus 18V is 6dB, which equates to "noticeably louder" but nowhere near "lots louder". I think it's more likely a problem with the build.

Thanks. I will check my build again.

Hey, I just went back and compared the changes between Mictester's version and the original. Mictester's version has a maximum output (before clipping the op-amp) about 15dB(v) less than the original. I don't remember exactly how voltage dB corresponds to loudness, but it's entirely possible that your build is functioning perfectly.

Hey can we do a layout for the Bare bones version with two TL072's?
I know using a TL074 is ok but i have loads of TL072's and it just simplifies it!
A layout would be fantastic?

Cheers guys,

Sure we can, if "we" means you.
Ive got this on the bread board and would like to build it. When do you think you will have the layout done? Soon I hope.

This is a bare arse bones version of the Centaur. No Led circuit. True bypass only, no buffered bypass. Follow the schemo posted earlier in this thread. Just use your favourite true bypass switching. NOT VERIFIED. I will build it in a day or so and post the trace cut layout then.

Wow thats was quick!! I had a little look yesterday at building this as you have done, but, i dont think my conversion skills are up to your standard!!
Thanks very much for the post man, very much appreciated

Hey i really hope it works. I'm not too sure if i'm going to build one or not. I've still got it on the bread board but im not sure if i like it or not. I've been over the layout a couple of times and it all looks right to me. I suggest if your going to build it, set up the first op amp stages up to the clipping diodes and the 1uf cap and test that section to make sure its working. then continue on. It will be a bitch to debug other wise i think. Let me know if you need the layout for the trace cuts and i'll post it up for you.

I'm experimenting with another one of these I built.
I don't have the charge pump in it, so I was using a dual power supply to give me the pos and neg voltages and I'm not seeing any difference if the negative supply is there or not.
it's supposed to have more output with the dual rails?
Hmmm....maybe it would behave differently with a guitar, I'm just running a signal generator into it right now.

I've just demo'd one of these on youtube:

This thread is about a modified Klon circuit that only uses a single, positive supply...?

does anyone happen to have a wiring diagram for the vero layout seen above?

I can't edit the above post but had another question about the resistors used. Is it ok to use 5% 1/4watts for everything or do I need to use 1%'ers for R5,R7,R8,R10,R18(assuming these are in place of the 1% used on the charge pump equipped vero diagram)
