how to read this layout?

i'm a newbie... i'm sorry...
how should i hold my pots, to do a correct wiring with this layout:

my understanding is that the lugs on a pot are 1, 2, 3 when the shaft is upwards and the lugs face the builder. is this correct?
and than i have to put the knowledge you'll give me in action on the layout...
how are the pots pictured on there? what is the order of the lugs?
if i get the standard numbering of the lugs right... and i know how to face the pots for that... combined with a numbering for this layout... i'll be done with this question for ever and i'll for ever know how the standard numbering is done and how igloo's layouts work!
