Well you have guts and photos so its not really a request.

Its the same layout as a meathead with some different values thrown in for the resistors and caps. At first glance the input cap is much larger than a meathead and the first transistor is definitely different. I have seen zetex mosfets in that package but I dont know if typical BJTs come in that package as well. Try building a meathead and subbing in the values from that picture and see what happens.

Maybe it's an old transistor, In my Phase 90 the PNP comes in that exact same package, don't know the classifier, though; maybe some manufacturers adopted the TO-92 later.

And I could swear I've seen them in the flip-flop sections of some BOSS pedals, or BOSS knockoffs.

Not sure. That package is called E-Line and and I have seen them in some mass produced effects. Its also the package of the Diodes Inc./Zetex BS170 ZVex uses.

E-line, yes thanks.I had an old chart where it was described, unfortunately lost it, had forgotten the name.

Still, I'm pretty sure its a BJT.

Is the black 'skirt' part of the xistor too? I presumed the xistors were inserted into round sockets.

no, i think that is some kind of spacer, or possibly a socket.

i'd like to hear what this guy sound like. i just like the ad copy. [smilie=grin.gif] maybe i'll draw a schem if i get a chance. there's so much other stuff to do though!

Alright, if anyone wants to take a look at this. Maybe guesses for trace cuts and the two missing capacitor values? I'd start experimenting then afterwards.

Why 1K for the output pot? My guess on that would be 500K. The questioned film cap is probably in the range of .01uF to .1uF and the questioned electrolytic is probably in the range of 4.7uF to 22uF. Breadboard and listen to your ears.

Those two lower strips should both be grounded I think. Otherwise that pulldown isn't doing anything and Q1 has no emitter/ground connection.

^Yeah, sticking a jumper between the last two strips would work just fine.

Your Q2 is very likely still a BC182L as you're still going to need an ECB device to fit that layout.

Alright, it works. :horsey:

Not sure if the last values are identical with the original, but soundwise, it is surely as close as it gets. I tried the layout with several transistors (2n2904, BC107, 2N5088) but once again, I stick to my dear ME4003 (Si NPN, CBE, hfe around 140). Yeah, I bent the legs for Q2 - works like a charm. If anyone has a suggestion for that Q1 in the gut shots, let it hear. You might also try a logarithmic taper since most fuzz/loudness happens between 8 - 10.

Enjoy.

Correction, the ME4003 I was using had a higher hFe, around 250 to 400.

Do you get that 'octave sound' that's been talked about?
