I've heard about a lot of people using shielded cables for the in/out connections on their high gain builds (muffs, most notably). I have two questions regarding shielded cable and its use:

1. Does one connect the shield to ground? Or is it left unconnected.

2. Anyone ever thought of making their own with kitchen foil, regular hookup wire, and heat shrink?

1. One end only should be grounded.. it's termed a floating shield (you need to avoid ground loops).

2. I wouldn't think so when you can buy it readily. I think it'd be stiff and fragile if you made it like that with foil.
