Faustone - Valve Klipper [guts]

Kinda looks like a Kingsley Jester on the inside.
I sure do like the look of toroidal transformers.
Apparently amps is their main business:
http://www.faustone.com/
But all you'll find there is a link to a Flickr account. Plenty of amp guts, but no pedal guts.

I was watching the development of this one over at the D*A*M forum..... Looks pretty sweet. Based in the Laney Klipp, IIRC.

I didn't say I
post there.....

I keep a pretty low profile. And I've never done an RE or a home-build of any D*A*M pedal, so they haven't unleashed the mob on me (yet).
Here's the thread - way long, but some good pictures, clips, and notes here and there:

Holy shit!!
325 Euro!?!?!
I realize it's kind of a one-project, but that's really high. Doing stuff small scale sure as hell is expensive.

this thing looks really cool. i take it that it's kinda like laney's version of a tube fuzz. i was trying to figure exactly what was going on from the laney factory schem, but it's drawn like the 7th level of the light cycles from the Tron video game. but still, i can't wait to check out that clip when i get home from mixing the world's limpest rock show. i'll need something of this ilk to wash away the leftover toxic residue from the show tonight as well as last night's post show shenanigans. the white russians are helping...

Two Jeff Bridges references in one post.
I don't really go out for this kind of thing soundwise, but that is a neat build. Neat, both as in cool and tidy. I admire the skills of these people - figures that they come from the amp world and not a stompbox background.
Which makes me wonder what an amp built by Death by Audio would look like... I can't find the puke smiley, but you get where I'm going, I'm sure.

1.5 references, actually. To be picky, the "white Russian" should properly be called a "Caucasian".

I'm not sure what it would look like, but I'm sure it wouldn't actually work.

No way, Dude!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Russ ... ocktail%29:
"In the 1998 film The Big Lebowski, Jeff Bridges' character drinks White Russians throughout the movie (in one scene, mixing one with powdered non-dairy creamer as a substitute). During the movie the character refers to the drink as both a White Russian and a Caucasian." In fact, the scene after the episode with the "powdered dairy creamer" is
very funny where he goes shopping in his nightclothes to get some milk...
Good to see "Smurfs in Space" didn't get much at the Oscars!

Brrrrrr.... the Klipp! I once repaired that amp for someone who got this amp for 1 euro in a second hand shop. The amp is pure garbage, the OD channel then. The clean channel is pretty sweet!
The Klipp sounds like a treble fuzzy OD that has no character at all.......... I really disliked it!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. But "Caucasian" is the one people think is unique and remember.

I´ve played this pedal and i can to say it´s incredible that sound
I´ve connected to effects loop and it isn´t garbage.
It´s a lot of money but i think that isn´t expensive.
Builded with high quality components and a high quality enclosure.
High product, without doubts.
Regards
P.S. Sorry my poor english

Sounds pretty lame imo.
You could get a very similar tone with BJTs.
Props to his build quality and construction technique.

would you believe that wasn't my intention? although i was making everyone call me dude all night!

i guess the planets were just properly aligned.
for the record, i think this thing sounds interesting. like a tube fuzz! i would like to hear a clip with a proper mic.
also. i wonder how it compares to the stinger circuit. sort of the same idea.

Looking at this again, I realized that the wiring to the mains inlet is not heat shrunk - exposed high voltage. Isn't that really bad practice, and wouldn't something with exposed HV be illegal to sell? This is British, so you're looking at 220-240v just out in the open for any gut-shooting fool (not you, CJ) to potentially kill himself. Maybe threat of electrocution is the goop for the 21st century?

That's like Ferari that goes 5mph.
It sounds poor.

At least nobody pee'd on a rug in this thread.
Pedal looks well built though.

That rug really tied the place together, too.
