DISCLAIMER: Like the title says, this is NOT a 1:1 copy of the pig mine, just my attempts to get close to the sound of it. I have no idea what transistors are being used here, my current complement is Q1 = 2N4401 Q2, 3 = BC109C (from a set hat i kept aside for the top fuel from these boards but never got down to making) Q4 = 2N5088.

PCB layout is unmodified from gauss-markov's page: http://gaussmarkov.net/wordpress/circui ... e-version/

the one thing i feel it needs is a 100u cap from 9V to ground. there's a small amount of inherent noise. otherwise, i've been quite satisfied with the results so far; there's still work to be done though. am going to try different transistors, currently have sockets installed. so far, this has been the best complement. all i know (anybody, for that matter) is that skreddy is using readily available current production transistors.

i used the values that i could see in this picture: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showpo ... tcount=326

Marc, I know you're reading - i love the clips to death. Never cared much about muffs till i heard a friend's pinkmour. hearty congratulations on having raised the bar of the big muff sound! :D and that too at a very decent price - pete cornish, take note. (although, i ADORED the top fuel too - beautiful sound). Hope i get to play/own a real skreddy pedal someday.

here are clips recorded by a friend: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default ... ID=1046495

No offense intended, but with time the chances increase for Skreddy to become the "Lovepedal" of Big Muffs with all his different Big Muff variations.

There´s a sucker born every minute - and too many of them end up in the bootweak pedal biz.

oops, my bad. thanks culturejam!

as of this post, this is still in the testing phase for me, i'm not satisfied yet - the above values and trannies work in the layout as posted though. so anyone who likes the tone can build it as it is :)

also, any pointers with regards to the values (or even the actual transistors used) would be helpful. trying out different trannies is pretty exciting though :D

Marc has been extremely busy of late and isn't forumming (damn newspeak!) much, I think. Would love to get his opinion too.

Will upload a new PCB layout sometime when I've etched and verified it - it's a sort of generic muff "breadboard" idea that i had. need to make a couple of small corrections before i etch though... hope it happens this week.

ok, a minor update. i felt especiallly lulzy and thought i should do something i'Ve always wanted to do: drop germs in a muff circuit.

did it to this one without changing any values, just switched + and - and connected + to GND.

i used NOS tesla gold pin OC72s. i had tried these out in a tonebender but the gain was too high so it sounded a bit retarded. dropped them in here and initially the circuit was nice, sparkly and had no gain to speak of.... i checked again and saw that the trannies were in reverse. swapped directions and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD.

it's a really "nice" muff - the lower gain seems to be conducive to the function of the circuit, with the extreme settings being a lot more usable. it walks that region between fuzz and overdrive, it definitely has muff like characteristics but there's a huge change in the sound - clipping sounds a lot softer and warmer in general. the diodes are still the same - the circuit wasn't adjusted in any way from the schematics posted.

it's NOT a muff - but definitely a pedal i'm going to build for myself. clips as soon as i can. need new pickups for my POS ibanez RG.

looking forward to the clips ! Do you have any HFE readings on those OC72's ?

haven't measured them - i just pullled 4 and popped them in. i remember randomly selecting a few and measuring them on the RG keen germanium testing thingy. they measured at negligible leakage and the gain was a bit on the higher side for a standard germanium fuzz - 200 or whereabouts. i'll test these and will post here.

very OT: any recommandations for forums where people sell decent used gear at decent prices? am looking for a pair of humbuckers for my RG, possibly duncans or rio grandes. the INF3 and INF4 pickups are disgusting.

most of the classifieds at TGP are priced very reasonably, but most of them do not want to ship outside CONUS either.
