Suhr Riot [gut shot]

There's a second pcb in there. So, the micro-controller might be there. Or on the bottom side of the top pcb. It's probably something like the Cusack/Lovepdal with whatever extra to use their pedal linking system.
Also, I think a 386 or 308 into a 4049 would get these kinds of metal sounds pretty easily.

From John, one of the guys who works at Suhr who haunts the forums at TGP as "Husky".

John, just wondering:
What's the pedal's heart and soul? Is it jfets? Opamps?
Link to the thread/post.Both actually with 3 different clipping modes one is germanium.
It has the unique ability to also not change the tone down to 4V on the supply, has a true bypass relay inside that as a remote jack, it warns you when the battery is too low and if the battery dies it kicks you into bypass.
Also the box is machined out of billet aluminum, scrap is recycled, anodized and laser etched so there is no silkscreen to wear off

The box looks very interesting to me. This doesn't look like the standard boxes everyone is using. It almost looks like it was CNC machined from a block of aluminum. Hard to tell from the photos. But it looks like the sides are flat and the interior has different profile. It might have some interior structure.

I haven't built anything with a 4049 yet. How do they clean up with the guitar volume?madbean wrote:Also, I think a 386 or 308 into a 4049 would get these kinds of metal sounds pretty easily.
That is one of the things that i like about the FET boosted 386 style of high gain building. With the volume rolled off it can clean up extremely well, for a pedal.
If a 4049-based distortion can do that as well, i will add one to my to-do list.

I couldn't find it in the manual:
What EXACTLY does the toggle switch do?
Also, it appears that "Husky" on TGP forums is none other than John Suhr-President JS Technologies Inc - Suhr Guitars - CAA Amplifiers - CAE CabinetsIt changes the type of clipping, to the left is fat germanium, middle is more organic and natural, right is thinner and edgy
IF we are talking about the voice switch.
The other switch is for the remote switching and whether is defaults on or off when powered up for people with pedal board switchers

I'm not claiming this is anything like the Riot at all, but I drew this up just to illustrate kinda what I was talking about earlier in the thread. This is where I'd start to get something similar. It's a mash-up of a Smash Drive on the front end and then two gain stages using a 4049. The Tone control is a Big Muff, but you can make those into more of a presence control by using the right values and decreasing the value of the pot. No toggle switch, as of yet. Anyway, for what it's worth...

Wow.. you're right.. it looks like those things are CNC machined from either a forging or a billet !!laiben wrote:When I opened the box to take the pictures I was amazed by the high quality of the case. It is machined from a block of metal and it is really "thick" !.

They're CNC'd from billet aluminum, per Husky. He's been so helpful answering general questions, but I bet he won't provide a schematic!

I've always wanted to do that but figured the cost would be too high.

Price of entry IS high, volume can offset this expense. I'm working on an enclosure right now.Greg_G wrote:Nice..Grendahl wrote:They're CNC'd from billet aluminum, per Husky. He's been so helpful answering general questions, but I bet he won't provide a schematic!

One of my friends owns a company that manufactures telescopes and he has a GE Fanuc CNC which he uses for a number of his products including the big counter weights. It's an amazing process to watch and he showed me how easy it would be to make something like a bespoke box and I suspect it could actually end up costing me about the same price I pay for Hammond enclosures because of the comparatively low price he pays for the raw materials.

Yup!laiben wrote:When I opened the box to take the pictures I was amazed by the high quality of the case. It is machined from a block of metal and it is really "thick" !.
What amazes me far more, especially with the case being machined like that, is that they screwed up every solderjoint by cutting the leads too short, partially cutting, and therefore weakening, the joint.

AFAIK Suhr uses relays for pedals.sinner wrote:Sikor wrote:Why do You think it's not TB?sinner wrote:OMG!!! Not true bypass??? Does TGP wankers knows that?
Perhaps because I see no microcontroler and two pole momentary switch?

I never remove any goop so I don't know if I can master the goop-removing technique, but this will not stop my will to remove the goop.
However, this is not my pedal!!!

If you're willing to take the gut shots, and perhaps loosen a few screws, we could start a new thread for it in this forum... what do you think?daz wrote:I have the suhr shiba overdrive and features are well thought out and build quality is impressive.

Btw, checking pedals on an OD100 is like hearing that Elle MacPherson's husband met her on a blind date
Sure, who wouldn't go on a blind date with her, but that doesn't say anything about blind dates... does it?
A friend has an OD100 and by far it is one of the best amps I ever played on.
Sadly the little piece of shit doesn't alow me to be alone in the room with the amp because he knows I carry a small screw driver in my pocket all the time
