Is that hard to desing a PCB?... (I know that it's not!). At least make your own layout with your "MODS". This is a shame.

It takes about half an hour to design a board like that if you're competent. You have to remember that most Boutique Boobs assume that the layout, colour and size of the components matters more than the actual circuit design itself because they know no electronics at all.

It's funny that the builder of that thing claims that there are mods under the board - why? Wouldn't it be easier to put in his magically calculated changed values when the board was constructed, rather than tack them on underneath?

The only change that's visible is that the "presence" preset is now a front panel pot. He might have put a resistor in series with the pot under the board, but it would be easier and neater to drill a couple of extra holes for the additional resistor, cut the track under the board, and solder it in.

No doubt the morons at TGP think that it's either:

(a) wonderful

(b) too cheap to be any good.

Indeed. The good news is that if Madbean doesn't agree with what's happening, he can simply cut him off and he'll have to do what everyone else does and actually design a PCB.

He may be making his own PCB's, but he's using Madbean's layout.
He probably is as I don't think Madbean will supply commercial quantities of clone boards.

Shit I forgot Madbean's layouts are all posted. I was thinking he made layouts specifically for the site and sold them.

I suppose it's possible that this guy worked out a deal with madbean. :hmmm:

If so, then that's cool-and-the-gang.

If not, it's kinda douchey.

I cannot believe how stupid the posters are on that forum. "Sounds great with a Tubescreamer" - what a tw*t.

I'm investigating some thick Plexiglass for casing - I'm determined to make the most "transparent" overdrive pedal ever!

It's going to be in a limited run of perhaps 12 (with number 13 for myself, of course), and they're going to have a reserve price that will make your eyes water. I think that it would be fun to have a little competition for the denizens of this forum to guess the highest price one of these goes for. The person who gets closest gets a free one in return for some of his best local beer.

The PCBs will have gold-plated tracks, all the component values will be repainted to silly ones, and the IC will have a bizarre part number. It'll also be fun to see which Boutique Boob claims to have cloned it first!

I'll keep you all posted!

Yes he's a member.
He uses the same name here as he does at TGP, and it's in the TGP thread linked above, and also in posts spamming the pedal at TGP.

Well, this forum is based on members sharing.
I'm sure you've benefited many times from guts, tracing, schematics posted here..
I'd dare to suggest that without this forum there would be no MV Electronics Shredhead pedal.
I think it's time for everyone to stop the witch hunt and stop taking this thread personally.. it's just another exposure of a pedal at FSB.. happens every day, and it's all good.
(yes, I visited the other forum).

As the builder admits this is based on the Crunch Box, I see only one real problem.. that can be easily fixed, and that's the commercial use of Madbean's layout, I presume without his permission to do so.
All he has to do is design, or have designed, his own PCB.
It's a simple circuit.. so easy to do, he can incorporate any modifications.. and everyone's happy.

What would be really cool is if the builder shared the mods he'd made with the DIY community.
:thumbsup

Please guys,, this is an English speaking forum, and while there are many Nationalities here and we deal with language problems at times... posting in a foreign language so only a few can understand it is a bit rude.

The exposure of this design actually lead me down the path of an SMD layout for the crunchbox circuit.
If it ever gets done, I'll post it for everyone's use.
I try to make things as small and dense as possible, so it may take a little bit.

Kudos to the "builder" for this inspiration!

this circuit does sound pretty \m/ in that demo doesn't it? no wonder it's sold a 100 in the phillipines! looking forward to that layout. i would really like to start getting my smd together... and wouldn't it be funny if it was because of this thread?

No, it's fuckin boutique is what it is.

There are a handful of really creative boutique builders, and the other 98% of them are repackaging the same old shit.

What are you talking about ?

What's shameful or wrong here, and what do you think FSB has done wrong that would cause you to say that ?
How is this any different to the hundreds of other pedals, gutshots and circuits on here for all to share ?
