Hey! I am planning a stompbox project and am wondering if there are any detriments to using copper wire instead of a pcb board? I am planning on using copper wire (or maybe some other type of wire if anyone has any suggestions) for the whole circuit, is there any reason this would not work/would provide poor results?
Thanks for your help!!

Nothing wrong with it at all, that's essentially what a perf build is.

I was going to (try) to use a piece of cardboard. Making holes just like in pcb but using wire connections. I don't really want to mess with ferric acid so I thought I'd give this a try.

No point to point wasn't what I was talking about, I mentioned perf because it's a widely used and accepted way to build one off circuits. I didn't think that whether or not you use a board of some description between the components and traces was the issue.RnFR wrote:or maybe point to point? depending on whether or not you are going to use any type of board or not.

That is correct. I am using cardboard with staples so that the components will be soldered to the board as well as to the wire and will not be able to rattle around possibly weakening the solder over time. I know it's horribly low tech and unprofessional but I am aiming for a one of a kind box.IvIark wrote:No point to point wasn't what I was talking about, I mentioned perf because it's a widely used and accepted way to build one off circuits. One more question, what type of copper wire (thickness or whatever) should I use? I am ordering wire and other supplies off of small bear elec. and am lost as to what I should get.
Thanks for all your help so far!

i know that's not what you were talking about, brother. the op didn't specify whether or not he was using a board or not. therefore i thew point to point out there in case he wasn't using one. i wasn't even really responding to you, just letting him know what it was called in case.IvIark wrote:No point to point wasn't what I was talking about, I mentioned perf because it's a widely used and accepted way to build one off circuits. i think i'll go back to not answering people's questions now!

Just get some thin solid core. I'm not too well up on the US wire sizes, but I got some 1/0.6mm here in the UK which is single core 0.6mm conductor and that would do the job fine.gruforevs wrote:One more question, what type of copper wire (thickness or whatever) should I use? I hear ya (I live in Canada and hate imperial measurements too). But I will suffer it out and convert from Small Bear's numbers. I will check out some 0.6 mm stuff.IvIark wrote:Just get some thin solid core.
